Washington, D.C. – Today, Pennsylvania U.S. Senators John Fetterman and Bob Casey celebrate the nomination of Catherine Henry to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. If confirmed, Henry will sit in the Lehigh Valley, marking President Biden’s eighth federal judge appointed in Pennsylvania.
“I was so happy to recommend Cathy to the White House, and President Biden has made an excellent choice in nominating her. This is a major win for Pennsylvania. Cathy has worked tirelessly for more than two decades as a public defender for Philadelphia and for our commonwealth, where she has earned a reputation as an excellent lawyer and true advocate for justice. She will be an excellent federal judge, and I will do all I can to see that she is confirmed as soon as possible,” said Senator Fetterman.
“Catherine Henry has already served the people of Pennsylvania’s Eastern District for more than two decades with honor and distinction as a public defender, and there is no doubt in my mind that she will continue to serve them with a firm dedication to the rule of law as a U.S. District Court Judge. Throughout her career, she has committed herself to the people of Eastern Pennsylvania, and I look forward to her bringing her integrity, experience, and fierce commitment to fairness and equal justice under the law to this critical new role,” said Senator Casey.
Catherine Henry has dedicated her career to public defense, and her nearly 30 years of experience in the courtroom is a testament to her aptitude for the federal bench. Since 2002, Henry has served in the Federal Community Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, first as an assistant federal defender and then as Senior Litigator. Her career began in 1996 as an Assistant Defender with the Defender Association of Philadelphia. Henry earned her undergraduate degree from Drew University in 1991 and graduated from the District of Columbia School of Law in 1995.
