Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Bob Casey (D-PA) celebrate the Senate’s confirmation of Catherine Henry to serve as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Henry, who will serve in the Lehigh Valley, is the eleventh Pennsylvanian to be nominated to the bench by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate, of which nine have been women.
“Cathy Henry has spent nearly 30 years fighting for justice and making sure every Pennsylvanian has the legal representation guaranteed by our Constitution. That’s why I was proud to advocate for her nomination and to join my colleagues today in confirming her to the federal bench,” said Senator Fetterman. “Cathy will be the kind of judge who truly understands the challenges everyday Pennsylvanians face because she’s spent her career working on their behalf. She’s going to make Pennsylvania proud, and I couldn’t be more excited to see her serve on the federal bench.”
“For almost 30 years, Catherine Henry has served the people of Eastern Pennsylvania as a public defender, fighting to ensure equal justice under the law,” said Senator Casey. “Her decades of experience and commitment to protecting civil rights make her exceptionally qualified to take on this new role as a U.S. District Judge. I was pleased to vote to confirm Judge Henry and I look forward to seeing her continue to serve the people of the Lehigh Valley and the Eastern District.”
Henry has dedicated her legal career to public defense, representing some of the most vulnerable individuals in Pennsylvania. Since 2002, she has served in the Federal Community Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where she currently works as Senior Litigator. Previously, she spent six years as an Assistant Defender with the Defender Association of Philadelphia.
A graduate of Drew University and the University of the District of Columbia School of Law, Henry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role. Her confirmation underscores the Biden Administration’s commitment to appointing judges who bring diverse experiences and a dedication to equal justice under the law.
